Last night, a star-studded crowd poured into the stunning Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles for another annual Golden Globe Awards.

As a Brit, separated from this glamorous night by 5,315 miles, a rather intense time difference and, most unfortunately, the lack of a live UK broadcast, I have to rely heavily on the media coverage and social media discussion left in its wake. Let's see what this years ceremony had in store!

Audiences latched onto a captured clip of Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, who ran up to the singer, who was nominated in the new blockbuster film category for her concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”, and promptly began an animated, impassioned conversation, the undetermined contents of which had viewers insane with curiosity.

Headlines say that lip readers, the professionally of which is at this moment unclear, took a go at interpreting the interaction but results were a jumbled mix of random phrases, with no perceptible context or clear meaning, no verdict reached, plopped down promptly where we started. You would think such a flawed deployment of the method would see it tossed aside without a second glance but, alas, the lip readers awoke once more. Their mark this time: Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner

I first saw the clip on the Glamour Instagram post. Presented with a stunning photo of the both of them together at their table, I was poised to scroll on. Until I saw the second dot immediately under the post, faded grey, desperate to be blue, pleading to uncover what was hidden. Then - swipe - a grainy, too-close-for-comfort video!

Not singling out Glamour, of course, lots of titles used this particular clip, even the official Golden Globes account, but their use of tag lines such as ‘The couple shared a kiss at the dinner table.’ can’t help but feel like children on a playground.

Props to Harper’s Bazaar for a pretty spot on approach, in my opinion, across the entirety of their coverage but especially this story - if such a title applies - telling straight facts, highlighting the excitement of the social media reaction but not fuelling the fire.

"Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet Make Their Golden Globes Debut in Striking Black Looks"

"It’s red carpet official, folks"

Only issue is it isn’t technically red carpet official as they still have not walked the red carpet together yet, but I digress.

I do get it, it’s really sweet to see them there together, to see her supporting him and them both looking so happy, it definitely has made me warm to this relationship more. Nevertheless, the investigation into what they are saying to each other is too far, no?

Just look at this headline from Cosmopolitan:

"Decoding Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet's Intimate Golden Globes Conversation"

Decoding is such an ugly word to use here and the casual skip over the word intimate makes it even uglier! Even if a girl-to-girl gossip session isn’t sacred, you would think a smitten exchange of love between two people in a relationship would be. Right?

There are some social media discussions I can get behind, however, events of the night that really should be discussed and brought to light, and top of that list has to be host, Jo Koy, and the jokes at the expense of the beloved Barbie movie and, iconic performer, Taylor Swift, told during his opening monologue.

Needless to say, the misogynistic nature of the jokes and blatant lack of respect for people who should have been honoured that night, was not, and should not, be accepted or made light of. Countless supporters took to social media to express their disappointment and candid confusion surrounding the act.

Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne, had previously expressed her excitement at having Koy on board to “bring his infectious energy and relatable humour to kick off Hollywood’s award season", saying: “We know Jo is bringing his A-game." It's a shame that this is not the experience last nights audience got.

The lineup of presenters gracing the stage were incredible, with some beautiful apparel on display, but, I have to say, from what I have seen, the only joke that really landed was performed effortlessly by Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, who honoured what is becoming somewhat of a Golden Globes tradition by absolutely nailing it.

The truth is, the loudest voices on social media are so often those of negativity and gossip. It's easy to be a little blinded by it all, but the Golden Globes are still about celebrating the capabilities, big steps and outstanding achievements across the industry of movies and television and this, the 81st, annual ceremony was full of moments which were testament to that from Ayo Edebiri’s win warming our hearts in so many ways, to seeing recognition given to the two movies that took the world by storm (on the same day!), to Lily Gladstone, first Indigenous woman to win Best Actress in a Motion Picture and so many more beautiful moments of appreciation, passion and joy.

What an eventful evening! - and that’s before I even look into the afterparty!
